Love
September 20, 2003

Thank you for being with us. Today we would like to talk about love. Without a doubt, it can be the most powerful thing in the universe. I think we have all experienced love on one level or another: family, friends. Do you know how the bible defines love? Let’s look at a few verses. John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. The Lord was talking to the Apostles here and reminding them of the example he set with them. John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.   God is LOVE.

What about friends? 1John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. I have heard of this kind of love: firemen, police, our military. I heard of stories about World War II, when P.O.W.S where being held and at random one of them would be selected to be executed in front of a firing squad on a daily basis. It was said there were some who were single that took the place of married men who had families back home waiting for them.   Love of Mankind.

Have you ever noticed, when you are in Love with your spouse, girl- or boyfriend, that the grass seems greener, colors are brighter, the small things just roll off you? You are bold, friendly and compassionate toward your fellow man. It is true. 1John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.   Perfect love will overcome WAR. I have known this love once; it makes you afraid of nothing.

Family love, this is a strong one. I would like for you to think a moment if you have children. The one or ones you really love. I would like for you to open your mind and heart and see this next verse and just for an instant put yourself in this man’s place and tell me if you could do this... How much do you love your children? Abraham loved Isaac, his only son. Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Verse 7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, my father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for the burnt offering? ...Can you imagine right here how Abraham’s heart must have been breaking?   Verse 8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went, both of them together. 9 And they came to the place which God hath told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him upon the altar of wood. 10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son.   About that time an angel of the Lord called out to him  12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do anything unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing  thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

Could you have done this to one of your children? I could not. I have thought about how it must have felt inside and I can't bear it. Below is a poem from a father to a child, read it and you will feel the love I’m talking about.

CHERUB
2-23-1996

He wakes me at the break of dawn with his rock-a-bye baby song. Down to his toys a site by his making; then he eats breakfast while watching squirrels playing.

Time for a trip in the pack on dad’s strong back, then back home to mom for his first morning's nap. Awaking smiles greet us with afternoon cheer; it’s lunchtime and playtime for our little dear.

Now toys and tv and incessant chatter as he points out to us most any matter. He watches and waits if one be gone and will peer through the window until they arrive home.

It’s dinner and play and to the bath with a shrill. He splashes and laughs until he’s had his fill. Dried off and in night clothes he begins to chat, looking for his book about an upside down bat.

Night! Night! He says, as to bed he goes, his eyes fixed on me and a shine on his nose. Tucked in his bed his light show begins, a soft kiss from mommy, a prayer and  Amen.

I watch in awe at this God’s creation: a love this true is some revelation. Of my fondest memories I will cherish these: The Cherub in the stained glass window that’s waiting for me.

Family Love.

There is another kind of Love that I cannot totally describe and that is the Love in which God Loved us. It is in the well known verse of John 3:16 For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,  but have everlasting life.

God almighty, the same God that commanded Abraham to offer his son for a sacrifice, spared Isaac. God provided a sacrifice for him, God also provided one for you, His Name Is Jesus Christ. God sent HIS only begotten SON to die for US. Please don’t leave this site today until you are sure you have accepted what Christ did for you at Calvary. God delivered Jesus up to be crucified in your behalf and I believe the worst sin you can possibly commit is to reject what he did for you. Can you see the kind of love it took God to give him for us? As he hung on the Cross God almighty had to turn his back on him to cut our sins away from us and let his Son die. A man who knew no sin, a friend, a son, The Creator of Heaven and Earth died for you and the sins of the entire world, He was dying on the cross and paying for all yours and my filthy sins in A.D. 33. He died for me, and I wasn’t even born yet. I was set free and didn’t even know it.   2 Corinthians  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, Who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Don’t believe anyone today who tells you you have to DO something to be saved. They are led by the spirit of a demon. Jesus already took your place. You are free to go. Just accept it and stop working on it. Trust Him Now!

The Love of God, which is in Jesus Christ.  How much does God love us??? I don’t have the ability to tell you.

Until Love overcomes fear... God Bless you all

Michael
