Preaching of the Cross
July 29, 2004

Hello everyone and I thank each of you for coming again. I would also like to extend a hand of fellowship to the people who have joined this movement for Christ in the past week. If you are new and have questions, please feel free to write, we are here to help build you up in the faith. Today let’s talk about the preaching of the Cross.

When I was first saved, I used to believe Jesus Christ died for my sins on a cross. I believed that God had raised Him from the dead and paid for all my sins. I didn’t know how but I just believed. There is far more to the cross than most preachers are teaching today. The standard one and the one I always grew up with was that Jesus was the Son of God, and bad people crucified Him, the God saved the day and raised Him from the dead. Well, that is true, but look deeper into what the cross was and who it was for.

1. Crosses were made for criminals. (That was you and I being dead in our sins)
2. Mark 15:28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.
3. Jesus Christ became a curse for us while he hang on the cross, Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
4. Jesus Christ was abandoned by Almighty God on the cross, Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, la-ma sa-bach-tha-ni? that is to say, My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Those are hard words to hear, I admit, the first time I heard them, it brought a whole new meaning to what actually happened on the cross. You see, Jesus Christ became accursed. He became every bad thing we have ever done. Why? Our sins were place upon Him. While he was hanging on the cross, I am certain that every one of us who are saved was on His mind. God had to turn His back on Jesus and let His wrath fall on Him. I am certain this is the "cup" referred to while He was praying in Gethsemane. God poured His wrath out on His only Son to pay for our sin debt. Jesus Christ was our substitute, He was sinless, and He came to earth to die for us because He loved us that much. Jesus took our sins away with Him to a place that they will be remembered no more. They can never be brought to your charge again and you are not to ever be held accountable for any of them. How wonderful is that! A lot happened on the cross that day, you and I were hanging on there with Him and your sins are paid for if you Believe Jesus Christ paid for them. You are to reckon yourself dead unto sin.

I would like to say a few words about some Brothers and Sisters preaching in Africa. Would you pray for these people? They need bibles desperately. There are many people coming to Christ through the message of Grace. There are also a lot of Muslims there accepting Christ as their savior. The preachers need study bibles, no matter how worn, but please, only King James. Go down and throw away your NIV and buy the right one. If you have an old KJV, send it in. It may well win souls to Christ out there in another continent while you are fast asleep here. It would be to your credit and there is no way to lose. There are so many requests, so many. I cannot keep up with them and it is a lot to ship them as well. There are so many hungry people out there only pleading for the Word of God while we sit here in this country and sleep. They are being persecuted, imprisoned, beaten and killed for professing their faith for the Lord. Help them, won’t you? The Lord will certainly not let it go unheeded.

Things in this country are fast approaching a time where soon, we too will begin to live under this persecution, let’s do this while we can folks.

I love you all in Christ

michael
