The Road to Damascus…and Dallas
November 17, 2004

Hello everyone, and thank you for coming. I would like to welcome the new members this week and ask that you stay with us for fellowship in the Lord. I would like to say hello to Chile, Taiwan, the U.K., Arpanet, Aruba, Italy and there’s many more; the Word is spreading and we're happy to see it!

Today I want to talk about something that is vital to a new Christian; it is Trust. When you lead someone to the Lord, remember, that person is a babe in Christ. It is our job to nurture them as a newborn infant until they can walk on their own. Can you imagine how confusing it is for a new convert out there these days? They watch programs on t.v.; they go to this church and hear this doctrine then go to the next church and hear another. I was much the same way when I got saved and I lived in a total state of confusion. I won’t tell you what religious background I was from because it will only be a catalyst for someone to call me down about it. I was the most distraught, confused individual on the planet; I even got upset and felt like I needed to be saved again when I heard Jimmy Swaggart preach on t.v. one day (I can’t believe I told you this :) I was later attending a bible church in Pensacola Fla. when the preacher there told me some things about rightly dividing the word of truth spoken of in 1Timothy 2:15. I didn’t understand it at the time because I was so caught up in baptism, keeping the 10 commandments and everything else someone told me in the past, but you know what? I believed it! I listened to this man preach Sunday after Sunday and it never got through to me. I was saved but I didn’t understand there was a basic difference in the gospels. I did what most churches do now, I ran them all together.

Michael

A year or so later I moved to Texas and as I was traveling to Dallas for work one day, I was listening to one of the tapes I received from that church at the time. I had prayed and tried to understand what this man had taught me, and even though I didn’t understand it, I always believed it. I was riding up the road and I could see this man preaching in my mind's eye and I could watch him as he drew charts on the blackboard and it hit me, I totally got it! I understood everything he had been trying to show me all those years, it came to me like a bright diamond. There were no miracles, no voices, just understanding and with it a total peace I had searched for all my life. Because I believed it.

The apostle Paul had an experience such as this on the road to Damascus. It is in Act. 9:3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Paul had an experience and it was from the Lord Himself. Paul in his own mind was a perfect individual, a Pharisee taught by Gamaliel. In Paul's mind he was doing God a favor, until the Lord preached the gospel to him (our gospel) and showed him different. There are many churches out there today who program people’s minds about things in the bible they have no business teaching people, for whatever reason; one day, they are going to have to give an account for it. I wonder how many poor souls have gone to hell that were on the road to Damascus and thought they were doing the right thing.

What is the right thing, Michael? Read the bible, rightly divide the Word of Truth, believe in the Deity of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit, believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of almighty God and that He was God Himself, and loved this filthy world so much that He humbled Himself to be put on this Earth (in a manger that people are trying to remove) to be tormented by the Devil and the very mankind He had come to save, and that He took our place on a criminal's cross and shed His INNOCENT blood for our sins and let us go free. Believe that and be saved. Jesus Christ is God and the Holy Bible Exalts Him as Such; if you read the one I do, He WAS virgin born, Lived a sinless life and thought it not robbery to be equal with GOD. He was buried and rose again according to the scriptures and is seated at the right hand of the Father now, waiting for the day He can return and purchase His prized possession, people like you and me, that even when we didn’t always understand the Word of God, we always believed it!

I thank you for coming today and I pray with all my heart that you be saved. It is my only mission, I love you and I don’t want you to end up in eternity without the Lord. I would also love the chance to meet you all in heaven some day. I love you.
